Stone Carvings
I have been stone carving on and off since 2012.
While working full-time on a screen, I decided that I needed a creative outlet that was an antithesis of computer-based work. I also often was drained creatively and was not interested in spending more time on a computer to pursue some creative outlet.
With regards to material making, I wanted something immediate and physical. Also, I wanted something that was pretty inert, a material that could end up in the environment and not have an environmental impact. This brought me to stone, a stone not desired was a stone that could end up in the environment again. As opposed to sculpting with plastics, glue and paints.
I was drawn to the built environment and my love of public transit. Carving brutalism and modernist forms can be more demanding than natural forms. One can see defects in imperfect straight-lines and angles, while a leaf can have many variations and is more forgiving to the eye.
